Chinese and Foreign Families Promote 2022 Beijing Winter Oly

A group of Chinese and foreign families took part in the annual celebration of the International Day of Families hosted by Beijing Women's Federation and the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality on May 18. The theme of this year's celebration was promoting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

More than 300 people from 20 families, including foreign diplomats and experts and representatives who won the honorary titles of the most beautiful families in the capital city and the most beautiful families in China, gathered at Shougang Park, one of the venues for the Winter Games in Beijing.

Zhang Yajun, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of Beijing Women's Federation, pointed out the significance of the communication between families. Zhang said celebrations for the International Day of Families have been held for nine consecutive years, drawing nearly 10,000 people from over 60 countries.

She noted that family-oriented communication could go beyond national boundaries, races and languages, and it became the carrier of communication and mutual learning between different civilizations.

Imad Moustapha, Syrian ambassador to China, conveyed a congratulatory message to the event before its opening.

The International Day of Families was launched by the United Nations to enhance the awareness of issues relating to families and to promote family harmony, happiness and progress. This year, its theme was Families and Climate Action: Focus on Sustainable Development Goals 13.

Beijing Women's Federation invited Chinese and foreign families to experience winter sports at the Shougang Park, one of the venues of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, to draw more international attention to climate change and its influence on the globe and winter sports.

Gao Fei, one of the winners of the most beautiful families in the capital city in 2019, showed great enthusiasm for ice and snow sports. She said every minor effort counted for the protection of the earth's ecology and each family should contribute to it with actions.

Another winner of the honorary title, a family from Iran, was also invited to the celebration. The daughter of the family participated in a short musical video recording for the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations that began in Beijing on May 15.

The Women's Federation of Beijing Municipality rewards the most beautiful families every year and invites them to attend the celebrations of the International Day of Families.

At the event, a troupe gave a performance of Ballet roller skating and children from Beijing's Shijingshan Kindergarten danced for the audience. They also tried winter sports and made crafts, which were broadcasted through the official Facebook account of Guangming Online.

In addition, the celebration also includes a week-long exhibition featuring families and sports, international exchanges between Chinese and foreign families and wishes for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
